Dear Tomales High School Families,
October is Substance Use Prevention Month, and THS is working closely with OD Free Marin and the Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) program to provide students with prevention education, resources, and support. On October 28th, all students will participate in an assembly on Opioids, Fentanyl, and Overdose Prevention
The following day, October 29th, THS will host its first Student Amnesty Day, offering students a safe, non-punitive opportunity to turn in devices, report substance use, and access prevention and cessation supports, including Quit Kits. This effort is meant to reduce stigma and promote health and wellness across our school community.
In addition, our 9th and 10th grade students will receive lessons and presentations through the Stanford REACH Lab curriculum and TUPE Peer Educators, covering topics such as brain development, stress and coping, stimulants, nicotine/vaping, cannabis, and alcohol. Later this semester, our Student Wellness Ambassador Program (SWAP) will also host a family screening of Screenagers: Under the Influence.
Parents are further encouraged to attend local virtual events such as Let’s Talk: Underage Substance Use in Marin on October 8th and Parenting for Prevention on October 15th. More details and registration links are available through the attached flyers.
We look forward to partnering with you in supporting the health and well-being of all THS students.
