Dear Shoreline Community,

As you know, we are expecting very heavy rainfall and high winds for a period beginning tomorrow Wednesday, January 31st and carrying on into Thursday, February 1st.

I will be working closely with our transportation department and our district leadership to monitor the storm and make decisions about the opening and closing of school based on the safety of our students, staff, and families.  In particular, we will monitor the road conditions and power outages as the key information in determining whether or not to keep schools open.

Based on the best information that we have at this time, it appears that the storm will begin in the late evening tonight or early morning tomorrow, and increase in severity in the later afternoon on Wednesday.

Our goal is to keep school open whenever possible to support student learning and social emotional health.  At the same time, we do not want our students, staff and families to be navigating dangerous conditions during the worst parts of the storm.  Based this, here is our current plan:

  • Tomorrow, Wednesday January 31st, all Shoreline Schools will be on a minimum day schedule and closing by 12:30pm.  All after school site activities, including the after school programs and school sports activities will be closed tomorrow, as well.

I will work with our transportation team tomorrow morning to survey the roads before 6AM.  If we have concerns that the roads are impassable, or are experiencing power outages already, then we may update and cancel school altogether for Wednesday January 31st, but at this point that looks unlikely.  I will update you all through Parent Square by 6AM tomorrow morning.

  • For Thursday February 1st, we will continue to monitor the weather conditions and their effect on the roads and power.  I will send an update through Parent Square to families by 6pm on Wednesday evening, and then again, if necessary by 6AM Thursday morning.  While we will do everything that we can to have school open for our students, I’d encourage families to begin considering alternatives in case schools are inaccessible on Thursday morning.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your school site, or contact us at the District Office at 707-878-2266.
