WELCOME TO TOMALES HIGH SCHOOL,
a California Distinguished School.
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE 1/16/17
Last Thursday and Friday, we were able to get back into school and move on with our semester. At THS, the second semester started with our efforts to bring school closer through the “Connect and Respect” program. The program focused on breaking down any barriers between students and staff, showing that we are all human, all make mistakes, and that we need to support each other. It asked us all to think about how we communicate, and how we address mistreatment when we see it or experience it. We discussed ways to support each other when issues arise, and gave us tools to actively work to improve our school climate for everyone. I do feel lucky to be a part of Tomales High School, where, with such a small student body comprised of people who are very familiar with one another, we often avoid issues that take place in larger school communities. Still, the “Connect and Respect” program reminded us all that even a small school like THS still has to be vigilant about ensuring that all students feel emotionally safe and supported by their peers and with the adults on campus. This was a great way to start off the second semester, and I look forward to working with students and staff to ensure that the conversation that we started last week continues for the rest of the year and beyond.
On Saturday, we host the 2nd Annual Black Hat Classic Alumni Basketball Game. Held in memory of Braves super-fan Joey Mendoza, this event is one of the great nights of the year at Tomales High School. Generations come together to celebrate the life of Joey, and their appreciation for how Tomales High School athletics has enriched their lives. Last year, I felt like I had been invited to a giant family reunion, and the buzz around this year’s event promises more of the same. The girls’ game is set to tip off at 4:15pm and the boys begin at 7pm, with dinner and activities all throughout the evening. We hope you can join us; you won’t be disappointed.
Follow me at @mrjTHSprincipal. I look forward to this new avenue for sharing all that we love about THS.
Have a great twentieth week of school, Adam Jennings, Principal
